Calling all NCR high school chemistry enthusiasts out there — it’s time to be in your element again!
Registration for the 18th Philippine National Chemistry Olympiad (PNCO) 2019 — National Capital Region (NCR) has officially started. This contest is open to students from both public and private high schools.
What is the PNCO?
The PNCO is a nationwide competition that promotes academic excellence in chemistry within the secondary school level. PNCO participants will not only test their chemistry skills against other talented students from all over the Philippines, but also see how and why chemistry can be a possible college track and future career for them.

Participating schools are allowed to send only (1) team of three (3) students to compete in the NCR leg. However, the selection of winners will be by individual performance, not by team.
This year, the NCR leg of the PNCO will culminate on Saturday, November 24, at UP Diliman’s College of Science Administration Building Auditorium. Questions for both the elimination round and final round will cover General Chemistry, Basic Organic Chemistry, and General Chemistry laboratory experiments.
The top three (3) participants will represent NCR in the National Finals, which will take place in January 2019. The winners may qualify for a Training Camp organized by the PNCO National Committee, and may also represent the country in the 51st International Chemistry Olympiad (IChO 2019) on July 21-30, 2019 in Paris, France. This will mark the Philippines’ third year of participation in the IChO, after winning two bronze medals at the 50th IChO last July.
How to join the PNCO
Only Filipino citizens enrolled as high school students at the time of the PNCO 2019 Regional and National competitions may apply as participants. Furthermore, they should NOT be enrolled as college students for the duration of IChO 2019. Additionally, the team’s coach must be a regular faculty member of their school.
The official registration period ends on November 23, 2018. Walk-in registrations will be allowed on November 24, 2018, but will end as soon as the contest proper begins.
Participating schools may signify their intent to join by sending the accomplished registration form to upchemsoc@yahoo.com on or before November 23, 2018.
