The UPLB Chemical Society, a duly recognized academic organization, has spent years promoting enthusiasm and awareness in the field of Chemistry. This year, the society proudly hosts the 17th National Chemistry Fair—Kapnayan 2025. After being conducted virtually in its last iteration in 2022, the triennial event returns in a face-to-face setting at the University of the Philippines Los Baños.
With the theme “A Cure’s Formula: Catalyzing Drug Discovery Towards Health Equity Through Medicinal Chemistry,” the Kapnayan 2025 will focus on exploring health inequity and understanding how medicinal chemistry drives progress toward a better Filipino community.
This event, with 37 participating schools nationwide, is a weeklong fair from January 27 to February 1, 2025. It will feature non-contest and contest activities for high school students. Non-contest events promise an immersive experience to the participants through educational nature trips, insightful seminars featuring speakers deeply experienced in their respective fields, and physical exhibits showcasing the process of drug discovery and the pivotal role of medicinal chemistry.
Kapnayan 2025 also offers a competitive avenue to the participants through contest events—all on the national level. This includes the most awaited National Chemistry Quiz, National Extemporaneous Speech, National Photography Contest, National Science Writing Contest, National Poster Making Contest, and the National Research Symposium.
Through these activities, the UPLB Chemical Society, recognizing the vital role of youth in tackling society’s challenges, aims to inspire young individuals to engage with chemistry, fostering contributions that will support the country’s growth and address the needs of its people.—Press release via UPLB Chemical Society/MF
